Helena Bonham Carter reigns in ‘King’s Speech’

LOS ANGELES, Nov 16 — Helena Bonham Carter will play the future Queen Mother in “The King’s Speech.”

Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush star in the period drama, which recently began shooting in England.

The film is based on the relationship between King George VI (Firth) and speech therapist Lionel Logue (Rush), who helped the accidental monarch lose his stammer and lead Britain through World War II. Bonham Carter will play the king’s consort, Queen Elizabeth, who became the Queen Mother upon her husband’s early death in 1952.

Also in the cast are Jennifer Ehle, Guy Pearce, Derek Jacobi, Timothy Spall and Michael Gambon. Tom Hooper will direct from a script by David Seidler. — Reuters
