ROME, Oct 13 — Italy’s swimming coach Alberto Castagnetti has died at the age of 66.
“I’m shocked, unable to believe it. I’m struggling to find words,” said Giovanni Petrucci, president of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI).
“Today we lost a champion to whom we all owe a debt of recognition for the emotions he gave us. Goodbye Alberto, we’ll miss you,” Petrucci told www.coni.it.
Castagnetti, who represented Italy at the 1972 Olympics and had been national coach since 1987, recently underwent heart surgery. — Reuters
