Singapore badminton gets RM21m boost

SINGAPORE, Feb 2 — Singapore badminton has received a US$6.2 million (RM21 million) financial boost after Chinese sports brand Li-Ning agreed a four-year sponsorship deal until 2013.

“Our strategic direction from 2009 and subsequent next five years, will involve overseas market development, together with our aim to become the sporting brand synonymous with badminton,” Vivien Lim, a senior official of Li-Ning Sports Singapore, said in a statement.

The deal will also include the title sponsorship of the Singapore Open super series, a statement on the Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) website said.

“Their generous sponsorship would help us accomplish many things that we could not do before,” SBA president Lee Yi Shyan said. — Reuters
