Jordan bans energy drink Red Bull

AMMAN, May 29 — Jordan bans the Australian-made energy drink Red Bull, a local daily reported today, reports China’s Xinhua news agency.

Orders have been released demanding Red Bull’s agents to suspend the import of Red Bull Cola and withdraw all Red Bull products from the market, Mohammad Rawashdeh, director with the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) said on Thursday.

This decision was made, said Rawashdeh, following reports in Germany claiming the energy drink contains a trace amount of cocaine.

Last week, six German states notified retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after a sample test conducted by authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia state found 0.4 microgrammes per litre in the drink.

However, the Red Bull manufacturer responded that its cola is “harmless and marketable in both the US and Europe”. — Bernama
