Ringgit trades higher against US dollar

June 05, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 — The ringgit traded higher against the US dollar in the early session today, lifted by mild interest for commercial activities, dealers said.

At 9.04am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.1850/1880 per US dollar from 3.1975/1995 yesterday.

Dealers said the regional sentiment was buoyed by efforts taken by policymakers in the eurozone to contain the debt woes.

"Still, much uncertainty remains about the health of the global economy and traders are hesitant to take major positions in the currency markets," one of them said.

The ringgit strengthened against the Singapore dollar to 2.4782/4823 from 2.4795/4825 yesterday and was firmer against the yen at 4.0661/0715 from 4.0973/0014.

The local currency appreciated against the British pound to 4.9020/9079 from 4.9114/9154 but fell against the euro to 3.9902/9942 from 3.9707/9738 on Monday. — Bernama
