Ferrari confirms Enzo replacement to be a hybrid

The legendary Italian brand has been playing with hybrid technology on its Formula One vehicles for some time now with the HY-KERS system, which uses two electric motors to reclaim kinetic energy and provides power for a torque boost and for on-board systems such as power steering.

Now, it looks like the technology will make a jump to the Prancing Horse’s supercars from next year, when it is scheduled to replace the Enzo with a new successor.

Although not much has been confirmed, the engine looks set to be a V-12 beast, which will deliver a whopping 900hp when mated to the electric motor — enough to give it a 0-97km/h time of under three seconds.

That will no doubt be helped by some creative weight management, with Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa telling Automotive News Europe that the car’s chassis will be made with the same carbon fibre grade used in its Formula One vehicles.

The result, the firm claims, will be the greenest supercar on the market, with fuel consumption 40 per cent under a similar car without the HY-KERS setup.
