Fisker Karma becomes a best-seller… in Holland

May 10, 2012

LONDON, May 10 — As it battles the fallout from yet another slew of negative headlines in the US this week, luxury eco-car maker Fisker had some good news from the other side of the Atlantic — it has become one of Holland’s best-selling vehicles.

Specifically, it was the second-highest-selling brand in luxury four-door models between January and April, overtaking the likes of the BMW 7-series, Mercedes S-class and Audi A8.

The only model that was sold more in the segment was the Porsche Panamera, Fisker claimed, making the hybrid-electric Karma the first ever vehicle to outsell its gasoline competitors in a specific class.

A piece of good news is just what the doctor ordered for Henrik Fisker’s beleaguered brand, which faced yet more damaging publicity in the US this week after fire ripped through a house in Houston which had a Fisker Karma in the garage.

Local officials are still investigating the accident, examining an electrical panel in the garage, which was where the fire started.

Several outlets were quick to lay the blame on the Karma’s lithium-ion battery pack, but Fisker hit back this week, pointing out that the cause of the fire was not known and the Karma’s battery was still intact after the event — suggesting it was not a contributing factor. — AFP-Relaxnews
