Interactive infographic: the world loves junk food at night
Picture courtesy of www.datamassivehealth.comNEW YORK, June 2— Turns out, people around the world follow similar eating patterns: we start our day with a healthy breakfast and as the day progresses, we indulge in more and more unhealthy treats. By nightfall, junk food reigns, at least according to a global interactive infographic that tracks the world’s eating habits. Massive Health, a San Francisco-based startup and app maker, recently unveiled a global interactive infographic, an aggregation of 7.68 million self-reported food ratings over a five-month period in some 50 countries.
The results show that while every culture may have its own version of junk food, as the sun sets, human willpower wanes while salty, fatty, and sugary temptations prevail.
Yet while the data doesn’t explain why our eating habits get worse as the day goes on, studies have shown that the more willpower you try to exert by trying to abstain from junk food, the less you are able to resist other temptations, such as sleeping late or procrastinating.
Research also shows that we might have only limited reserves of willpower — using them up earlier in the day leaves the tank empty for the evening. Your best bet? Go to bed early and steer clear of temptation by stocking your kitchen with healthy options. — Afp-Relaxnews
