Abolish PTPTN: Pak Lah says don’t be hasty

April 21, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 — Don’t be hasty in making a decision to abolish the Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan scheme, former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has said.

He said the move should be studied carefully as it involved many quarters.

“Not necessary to hastily do it (abolish PTPTN)... discuss and scrutinise the matter before making a decision.

“PTPTN involves many parties, and if it needs to be amended or abolished, they (opposition) should submit a proposal to the parties concerned,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama in Kepala Batas.

He was commenting on a statement by Pakatan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who has made known his intention to abolish the PTPTN scheme as soon as the opposition takes over Putrajaya in the 13th general election.
