Association wants London hecklers brought to book

May 16, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — The foreign and higher education ministries should single out those who heckled and showed disrespect to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak during a meeting with Malaysians in London yesterday.

Malaysian Ex-Policemen’s Association information chief Mohd Zainan Yunus said, such behaviour created a bad impression of Malaysia, thus, affecting its image and reputation.

“The action, as depicted by two or three individuals, was very disrespectful and rude... those who were screaming and shouting, ‘Bersih’... it was certainly not appropriate and did not show respect to our prime minister.

“If they (the two ministries) find that the hecklers were Malaysian students, the government should withdraw their sponsorship and ask them to return home,” he told reporters here today.

At the ‘Sepetang Bersama Perdana Menteri’ (An Evening with the Prime Minister) event in London, where about 1,500 people attended, between two and three individuals displayed rude behaviour, made noise and heckled.

Meanwhile, Mohd Zainan said the association was aggrieved by those who had insulted and abused the police who were on duty during the Bersih 3.0 rally on April 28.

“Do not continuously insult and abuse the police force because we have our own families. We are ordinary people who have a responsibility to take care of the nation.

‘The police are also friends of the community and do not have intention to insult and abuse other people,” he added.

He said a memorandum was sent to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar, urging the public to stop their provocations against the police. — Bernama
