Duo claim trial over impersonating military officers

ALOR GAJAH, July 4 — A businessman and a graphic designer were charged at the Magistrates Court here today with posing as military officers and wearing military uniforms last month.

Lionel Albert Goonting, 37, and Alison Felix De Silva, 39, however, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

They were alleged to have committed the offence at Base 10, Para Brigade in Terendak Camp here at about 2.45pm on June 23.

They were charged under Section 170 and Section 140 of the Penal Code which provide an imprisonment or fines, or both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Mohd Firdaus Salleh allowed the accused bail of RM10,000 each and fixed August 27 for re-mention.

Inspector Meran Anak Emai acted for the prosecution, while the accused were represented by lawyers Muhammad Fadhli Mat Sutris and Ahmad Faiz Munawar. — Bernama
