Hisham: ‘Excessive’ police presence unnecessary for Bersih 3.0

Heavy police presence at the Bersih 2.0 rally last year. - file picKUALA LUMPUR, April 22 — ‘Excessive’ police presence is not needed for next week’s Bersih rally as it is not a security threat, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said today. 

“There is no issue of security risk. There is not (a) need for excessive presence of the police,” he told reporters here. 

However, the Home minister said that police officers from the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) would be ready to take action should a “situation” arise next week. 

“If the situation needs it, the FRU is ready,” he said.
