Man detained for pointing pistol at cop
PETALING JAYA, July 4 — An unemployed man was detained after allegedly threatening a policeman by pointing a pistol at him in Petaling Jaya Selatan 2 early this morning.
Subang Jaya OCPD, ACP Yahaya Ramli said the 29-year-old suspect was detained after he lost grip of the pistol in the incident at about 2.05am.
Yahaya said the suspect, who had just been released from the Simpang Renggam Prison, Johor in April, had earlier been arrested by two policemen on suspicion of breaking a car window in the area.
“When he was arrested, the suspect seized the pistol of one of the policemen and a struggle ensued, resulting in the suspect firing a shot to the ground which did not hit anyone,” he said at a media conference, here today.
Yahaya said the suspect also pointed the pistol at one of the policemen and hit his head with the pistol butt.
“While trying to retreat, the pistol held by the suspect dropped and the suspect was apprehended,” he said.
The suspect was previously imprisoned under the Emergency Act for threatening and causing fear to the public. — Bernama
