February 26, 2012

KULIM, Feb 26 — Malaysia’s Indian community should be grateful for the help extended by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government for the construction and repair of Tamil schools, Bernama Online reported Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu as saying today.

The former MIC president (picture) said a total of 75 new Tamil schools were in the midst of being constructed with 50 more planned as a result of an RM300 million allocation for that purpose.

He was speaking to reporters after opening a new wing of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SRJKT) Ladang Henreitta in Padang Serai near here today.

Samy Vellu also expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for the concern he has shown for the Indian community, adding that the MIC leadership is working to raise the community’s overall economic status so that it is not left behind.
