Taxi driver remanded for robbing US woman in Bangsar
KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 — Police have detained a taxi driver who is believed to have robbed an American woman at Jalan Maarof, Bangsar, here last Monday.
In the incident at 9pm, the 46-year-old victim had just withdrawn money from an automated teller machine (ATM) before hailing a taxi near a shopping centre in the federal capital on her way to Jalan Maarof.
Brickfields OCPD, ACP Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid, said the 36-year-old suspect was believed to have pushed the victim immediately upon arriving at her destination before robbing her of RM20,000 in cash, a mobile phone, credit cards and several other valuable items.
“Following police investigations, we managed to detain the suspect at 10pm last night near the Jusco shopping centre, Puchong and recovered cash believed to belong to the victim amounting to about RM4,000,” he told a media conference here, today.
He said the suspect was being remanded until July 10 to assist in the investigation, and that police believed several robbery cases involving a taxi driver had been solved with the detention of the suspect.
