Umno does not use religion for politics

August 12, 2012

KOTA BELUD, Aug 12 — Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said Umno does not use religion or the constitution for its political interests.

He said the opposition parties, on the other hand, used religion for politics to win the people's hearts and accused those who did not support them as unIslamic.

"Umno has never used religion for political interests. Instead, we use the power that we have to uplift Islam, while the non-Muslims are free to practise their own religious beliefs," he said at a breaking of fast and presentation of aid to the poor and orphans at the Kota Belud Mosque here today.

In another development, Mohd Shafie, who is Rural and Regional Development Minister, said the ministry had allocated RM149 million for water supply project in Kota Belud this year.

He called on the people in Sabah to continue to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who had succeeded in bringing various transformations to the country. — Benama
