KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 — The Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry in Putrajaya seized 200,000 copies of pirated DVDs worth about RM2 million in a raid at a store room in Jalan PJU 1A/15 Taman Perindustrian in Petaling Jaya yesterday.

The ministry’s enforcement division’s special task force chief Fahmi Kasim said based on a public tip-off and surveillance for the last two months, the team comprising seven enforcement personnel raided the premises at 8 last night.

“There was no one inside the premises and we believe the syndicate had converted the two-storey building into a store to repackage the DVDs before distributing them,” he said through SMS here. 

Fahmi said the team had to forcibly break down the door to enter the premises.

He said initial investigations showed the syndicate had been actively marketing the DVDs around Klang Valley for five to six months.

“It is believed all the DVDs of assorted (movie) titles were copied in another place before being brought to the store for repackaging. However none of the DVDs were pornographic,” he said. — Bernama
