Ex-captive Shalit brings reality to set of Homeland
JERUSALEM, May 16 — Showtime’s award-winning drama Homeland got a taste of reality when former captive Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit stopped by the set during filming in Jaffa.
Homeland is a psychological thriller about the recovery of a US marine suspected by the CIA of being an agent of his former al Qaeda captors. It is based on the Israeli series, Hatufim, or prisoners of war, which was aired while Shalit was being held by Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip.
Shalit, now 25 years old, was captured in 2006 and released last October in a prisoner swap with the Islamist militant group Hamas. He has kept a low profile since his return home.
Israeli media reported he had been invited to the Homeland set by its producers. He was photographed yesterday with one of the show’s stars, Claire Danes, during filming for the second season of the series in Jaffa, which reports said was being used as a stand-in for Beirut. — Reuters
