‘Moonrise Kingdom’ called ‘very, very funny,’ ‘chic and charming’: Twitter highlights from Cannes
‘Moonrise Kingdom’ still. — AFP picCANNES, May 16 — Wes Anderson’s tale of young love and escape Moonrise Kingdom is the opening film for this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Critics and other attendees of the first screening took to Twitter to express their opinions, a selection of which can be found below in the first of a series of articles from Relaxnews examining social media reaction to the Cannes Film Festival.
The film, which tells the story of two young children who fall in love and run away to the wilderness before a violent storm turns their peaceful community upside down, has sparked two trending topics in France, home of the festival — ‘Wes Anderson’ and ‘Moonrise Kingdom’. Before the film was screened expectations were high, with even high street retailer Topshop @Topshop creating buzz with one of the day’s top tweets — “Wes Anderson’s new film Moonrise Kingdom looks ridiculously cute”.
Following the screening, reaction on Twitter was overwhelmingly positive, with critics praising the cast, cinematography and humour:
