Norshahrul yet to settle amount for buying out contract
KOTA BARU, Jan 3 – Former Kelantan striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha who had decided to buy out his contract with Kelantan has allegedly not settled the amount although he had signed to play for Johor Darul Takzim.
Kelantan Football Association (KAFA) President Tan Sri Annuar Musa said according to the terms and conditions set by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Norshahrul should have paid the amount for buying out his existing contract with KAFA, 30 days after signing to play for a new team.
“We are not disputing his decision to end the contract from his side but he has not settled the amount for buying out the contract and it leaves us with no choice but to report the matter to the FAM Player Status Committee.
“We have filed an affidavit with FAM and hope the matter can be resolved soon,” he told reporters after announcing the sponsor and launching the team’s outfit for the new season.
Annuar, who did not reveal the amount to be settled said the player’s existing contract with KAFA was still worth RM400,000.
He added that though the FAM had the authority to decide whether a player can play or not in any particular league after buying out his contract, the matter should not be viewed lightly since other players too might not follow the terms and conditions set by the governing body.
“How can you allow a player to play in the league, whereas technically speaking, the contract has not been terminated. The contract becomes invalid only after the settlement has been done, so it is not correct.
“We want to see this as a precedence case because this is the first time such an arrangement is taking place in the M-League. Signing for another team is normal but we must issue a release letter for him to play for the new team,” he said.
Norshahrul had 13 months of his contract in force when he decided to sign for Johor Darul Takzim. – Bernama
