200 houses in Kapar hit by flash flood

August 21, 2012

KAPAR, Aug 21 — A heavy downpour that lasted for three hours from 3pm yesterday caused a flash flood, which affected the homes of almost 200 families in Kampung Sungai Pinang Bandar here, disrupting their Aidilfitri joy.

Some of the families spent the rest of the day cleaning up the mess caused by the flood, which also damaged household appliances.

Several of the affected families, however, could not be reached by the authorities or neighbours who wanted to inform them of the flood as they were celebrating Aidilfitri in other villages.

A villager, Kartini alias Hawa Kamarudin, 59, said the flood damaged electrical equipment, such as her refrigerator and washing machine as well as cupboards and carpets.

Abd Rahman Mustapa, 55, said he was informed of the flood by a neighbour at 4.30pm while on his way to Kuala Lumpur.

“I returned home 30 minutes later, but could not do anything as the floodwaters had entered the house and damaged much of the furniture,” he said.

Adnan Rahmat, 42, said he was able to save his electrical appliances as he was at home when the flood struck.

Meanwhile, Klang municipal councillor Lee Sack Chuan, when contacted, said he had gathered information on the flood and would raise the matter with the district office to seek aid for the victims. — Bernama
