Air quality improves except for two places

KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 — Air quality nationwide continues to improve except for two places which registered unhealthy air pollutant index (API).
The Department of Environment (DOE), in a statement, said unhealthy API was recorded in Seberang Jaya, Penang and Miri, Sarawak.
It said air quality deteriorated in Miri due to peat fire in Kuala Baram near Miri this morning, which had since been contained by the Fire and Rescue Department.
According to the DOE, seven places recorded good air quality while 41 had moderate air quality.
The drop in air quality on the west coast of northern peninsular at 11am today was due to drifting haze from Sumatra, it added.
The DOE said it was enforcing rules on smoke emission from vehicles and factories nationwide, and open burning in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. — Bernama
