Anwar sues Nallakaruppan, Utusan for RM100m

March 26, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 — Pakatan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has filed a RM100 million defamation suit against Senator Datuk S. Nallakaruppan, Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd and its editor-in-chief Datuk Abdul Aziz Ishak over a March 20 article which appeared in the Utusan Malaysia.

Anwar claimed the article in the Umno daily, which quoted Nallakaruppan, implied that he “is of low moral”.

According to a report in The Star Online, Anwar also claimed that Nallakaruppan’s statement in the article meant that Anwar “is unqualified to hold the opposition leader’s post and a Muslim leader whose conduct is not in accordance with Islamic teachings.”

The opposition leader said the words had seriously injured his reputation, character, dignity and published with bad intention.
