Anwar’s defamation suit against Khairy set for hearing on Jan 15
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — The High Court here today set three days, from January 15 next year, to hear the suit filed by Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim against Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin for allegedly defaming him at a political function Kuala Kangsar, Perak.
Justice Datuk Su Geok Yiam set the dates in chambers in the presence of lawyers S. Prakash, who represented Anwar, and Sarah Abishegam, representing Khairy.
Prakash told reporters that he would be calling three witnesses.
In the suit filed on September 7, 2007, Anwar claimed that Khairy, who was then Umno Youth deputy leader, had defamed him at a political function in Kuala Kangsar.
Anwar claimed that the defamatory words uttered by Khairy were carried by the print and electronic media in the country on August 3, 2007. — Bernama
