Aswara students eligible for PTPTN loan once more

July 15, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan facility for students of the National Academy of Arts, Culture & Heritage (Aswara) will be restored, its Rector, Dr Mohamad Hatta Azad Khan, said today.

He said the decision was made following several meetings between Aswara and PTPTN last June.

“Now PTPTN is in the final stage of amending the PTPTN Act to enable Aswara students to also receive the loan facility, hopefully before end of the year,” he told Bernama at a function to welcome new students enrolled for the 2012/2013 session at the academy here today.

Mohamad Hatta said the facility was extended to its students previously when the academy was known as the National Arts Academy, but it ceased when the academy’s name was changed to Aswara in 2006.

The reason was that Aswara was established under the Aswara Act and did not fit the definition of an institution of higher learning as provided under the PTPTN Act, he added. — Bernama
