Body of second Sandakan boat capsize victim found

SANDAKAN, July 7 — The body of a girl, who drowned in yesterday’s boat capsize near Pulau Timbang near here yesterday, was found today.

Marine Operations Force Commander Officer (Sandakan Region), ASP Gan Ping Sin, said the body of Zulaika Amri, 12, was found in waters off Kampung Sinora, about three nautical miles from where the boat was reported to have capsized.

He said the body was found by villagers who were involved in the search and rescue operation.

The body was sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for post-mortem.

Yesterday, Zulaika, her father, Amri Tutuh, in his 30s, two younger brothers, a younger sister and a cousin, Sabturina Mohd Noor, 10, were returning to Kampung Serabut from Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Baru when their boat capsized at about 1pm.

Sabturina was found drowned about an hour later, while Amri and his children are reported in stable condition at the Duchess of Kent Hospital. — Bernama
