Boy, 7, shot dead while playing with pistol
KOTA BARU, June 16 — Thinking it was a toy pistol, a seven-year-old boy died while his uncle was seriously injured in an accidental shooting at his grandmother’s house in Ketereh here last night.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said in the incident at about 9pm, Muhammad Faris Faizal Noor Hissham, who had just celebrated his birthday, was said to be playing with a pistol belonging to his granduncle, a policeman in another state, after a wedding feast of his aunt here.
“Thinking the pistol was a toy, the boy was believed to have shot himself in the head and the bullet also hit an uncle, Helmi Ghazali, 32, in the chest.
“The Standard One pupil of Sekolah Kebangsaan Pohon Tanjung, Pasir Mas was confirmed dead at the Ketereh health clinic while Helmi, a school clerk, is being treated at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital, here,” he told a news conference today.
Jalaluddin said in the incident, the policeman was praying and had left his weapon hidden in a drawer but it was discovered by the victim who thought it was a toy gun.
“Police are investigating the case under section 304(A) of the Penal Code for causing death,” he said.
He added that the policeman would be questioned. — Bernama
