China’s foreign minister to make one-day visit - Bernama

China's Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi will be undertaking a one-day official visit to Malaysia tomorrow.

This will be his maiden visit to Malaysia after assuming the post of Foreign Minister in March 2013.

During the visit, Wang is scheduled call on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak and hold a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, in Putrajaya.

According to a Foreign Ministry statement here tonight, this visit will provide an excellent opportunity for the two Foreign Ministers to focus more on Malaysia-China bilateral relations despite having met regularly at regional and international events.

Both Foreign Ministers are also expected to exchange views on current bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The visit reflects the continuous importance that China, the world's largest communist nation, attaches to its relations with Malaysia and this would serve to cement the already strong ties that exist between the two countries, the statement said.

It added that trade and economic cooperation remain a key aspect of bilateral relations while expanding cooperation between Malaysia and China in other areas such as culture, tourism, education, defence, law enforcement, science and technology and people-to-people contacts hade also contributed significantly towards more vibrant and dynamic bilateral ties.

As Malaysia and China prepare to celebrate their 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2014, Wang's visit to Malaysia represented a renewed commitment by the Chinese government in pursuing a broader approach in engaging Malaysia and the region as a whole, it added. - Bernama, August 1, 2013.
