Chong Wei to be greeted as national hero
MUAR, Aug 6 — Lee Chong Wei will be greeted as a national hero when he returns home tomorrow although he failed to win the gold medal in the men’s singles badminton at the London Olympics yesterday.
Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Datuk Razali Ibrahim said Lee had shown determination and spirit in his singles final match against his great rival Lin Dan.
“He had shown determination in the game to win the gold medal. The whole of Malaysia had been waiting for it,” he told reporters after watching the match here last night.
He said that everyone should accept the fact that in sports, there would always be winners and losers.
Lee lost to Lin Dan 21-15, 10-21, 19-21.
Razali congratulated Lee for contributing a silver medal for Malaysia. — Bernama
