KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 24 — A senior enforcement officer with Malacca Customs, who was shot on the front doorstep of his home in Sungai Air Hitam, Taman Tanjung Minyak, Malacca, is currently recovering from surgery at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), Bernama Online reported today.
The news portal said Rosli Aziz, 53, underwent two operations at HKL last evening for gunshot wounds to his left shoulder and the palms of his hands.
It is understood four gunmen attacked the customs officer when he left for work in the morning.
Bernama reported that he was hit by four of the five shots fired at him.
Customs deputy director-general (enforcement and compliance) Datuk Matrang Suhaili said it was the first gun attack against a customs officer this year although officers often receive threats to their physical well-being.
The suspects fled the scene in a red Proton Iswara car after Rosli managed to reach for his own gun and return fire.
The police found three 9mm shell casings outside the house’s main gate, where the attackers are believed to have loitered in wait.
Rosli is from the Customs Special Investigation Division and has served the department for over 30 years. He has been attached to Malacca Customs for the last three years.
Bernama also reported that a Molotov cocktail was thrown into his compound on a previous occasion.
