Datuk, son charged over trader’s death

PETALING JAYA, Sept 21 — A businessman holding the title of “Datuk Seri” and his son pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to a charge of causing the death of a drinks seller last month.

Datuk Seri Jaafar Shaari, 50, and his son, Ahmad Jiwari, 23, were alleged to have committed the offence on Azahari Sidek, 44, at The Mines Downtown in Seri Kembangan, Selangor between 3.40am and 5.30am on August 13.

Jaafar and Ahmad Jiwari were charged under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years or fines, or both, upon conviction.

Judge Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz allowed both the accused bail of RM10,000 with one surety each and set October 23 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Aishah Ab Rashid appeared for the prosecution, while the father and son were represented by lawyer Datuk Abd Halim Yahya. — Bernama
