TEMERLOH, Feb 3 — The Higher Education Ministry will hold the 1Dream 2U programme in secondary schools nationwide this year to help realise students' wish of studying at a local university. Its deputy minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said the "turun padang' (going to the ground) programme organised with the cooperation of Unit Pusat Universiti and state education departments was to assist students to choose their course study at university.
The 1Dream 2U programme targets Form Five and Upper Six Form students who will be sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examinations respectively this year. Saifuddin said the programme was implemented following the failure of many SPM and STPM leavers to continue their studies at the tertiary level because they had chosen the wrong course.
"They have the qualifications required for certain courses but chose the wrong course and hence lost out in the competition for places at the university," he said after launching the 1Dream 2U programme for the Temerloh district, today.
Saifuddin said UPU officers with the cooperation of the district education officers and teachers would be going to secondary schools to brief students on choosing suitable courses in line with their academic qualifications and interest.
The 1Dream 2U programme for the Temerloh parliamentary constituency will begin this Tuesday at Sekolah Menengah Abu Bakar and will end at the Temerloh Integrated Fully Residential School on Feb 26. — Bernama
