Drugged-up man slashes duo in Kota Baru

KOTA BARU, Nov 19 — A man was seriously injured when he was slashed on his neck while his friend was slashed on the left wrist by another man using a sharp weapon at Wakaf Che Yeh, here, today.

In the incident at about 1pm, Liu Kien Hor, 25, who was injured on his wrist, said he was carrying out welding work when a man carrying a sharp object approached him.

“I ran after the man slashed me and then I saw my friend Chew Foi Siew being slashed by the attacker on the back of his neck,” he said when met, here.

Chew, 49, who was attacked in front of his family’s goldsmith shop, was rushed to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital, here, and his condition was reported to be stable.

An eye-witness, Chew Yok Ling, 60, who is also the sister of Foi Siew, said her brother had come out of the shop on hearing a commotion nearby.

“The incident happened so fast... I saw my brother was already on the floor outside and he was covered with blood.

“I dragged him into the shop and calmed him down while waiting for people to call the ambulance to take him to hospital,” she said.

Kota Baru police chief ACP Azham Othman, when contacted, confirmed the incident and said the suspect, an ex-serviceman in his forties, surrendered to police after the incident.

He said the initial investigation found the suspect to be under the influence of drugs when he allegedly attacked the two men, and police were still investigating the case. — Bernama
