EC may extend campaign period for GE13
KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 — The Election Commission (EC) has not ruled out the possibility of extending the campaigning period for the 13th general election to beyond 10 days.
Its deputy chairman Datuk Wira Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said this was based on the commitment of the EC to provide a minimum campaign period of 10 days, for a general election, which was longer than the seven days stipulated previously.
“There is a possibility the EC may allow a campaign period of 15, 16 or 17 days. But all will be decided by the EC when a special meeting on an official campaign period is held, after the dissolution of Parliament by the prime minister,” he said when interviewed for the programme ‘Dalam Radar’ produced by Bernama Radio24, here, yesterday.
He said, however, the EC had to be careful when deciding the duration of the campaign period to ensure the general election would proceed as planned. — Bernama
