The MAS flight landed back at Heathrow about an hour after it took off. — Wikimedia CommonsKUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 — A Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight that departed from Heathrow Airport for the KL International Airport (KLIA) last night, returned to the London airport about an hour later, due to a technical glitch with the aircraft’s no. 2 engine.
Flight MH1, which departed at 10.15pm for KLIA with 340 passengers onboard, landed safely at Heathrow Airport at 11.19pm.
In a statement issued here today, MAS said the operating crew of the B747-400 took the decision due to the technical problem.
“In the best interest of the safety of the passengers, it was decided that the flight should not proceed to KLIA,” it said.
It added that MAS provided ground transfer and full board hotel accommodation in London for the passengers and would keep them informed on alternative travel arrangements for their flight to KLIA.
The national carrier extended its apologies to the passengers over the unexpected disruption to their flight plans. — Bernama
