Ex-Dell man named new investPenang executive committee chairman

August 02, 2012

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 2 — Datuk Simon Wong, a former Dell vice-president (Asia operations) and managing director (Malaysia), has been appointed investPenang executive committee chairman, replacing Datuk Lee Kah Choon.

Wong retired from the company in March this year after 14 years there, according to a report in The Star Online.

Prior to Dell, Wong had 22 years’ operations experience in Motorola and was its Penang facility managing director.

Thanking Lee for his contributions and service during the handover ceremony in Komtar, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said Wong was not only well known but very experienced.

“Lee recommended Wong because he felt that the latter’s experience would benefit the state.

“Lee will continue to headhunt for the state government so that we can bring even more talents on board,” Lim, who is investPenang board chairman, was quoted as saying yesterday.

Lee remains a board member and director of investPenang.

Wong’s appointment took effect yesterday.
