Father of journalist shot dead
BUKIT MERTAJAM, Sept 22 — The father of a Guang Ming Daily journalist was shot dead at the Taman Sejahtera Jaya Flats here last night when he went to deliver crockery to a worker after closing his chicken rice shop.
“Two men on a motorcycle turned up and both shot at Yeap Cheng Chye four times. They also shot his worker who was standing nearby, twice,” said State CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah here today. The incident took place at 11 last night.
Yeap, 47, the father of journalist Gary Yeap, 22, died at the scene of the incident while his worker, Loh Siau Kee, 42, was shot on her left shoulder and stomach.
He said police was studying the modus operandi of the case and urged those with information to contact the nearest police station.
“The motive of the murder is still unknown because valuables and a wallet belonging to the victim were not touched,” he said.
He said both the suspects were said to be wearing dark jackets and full-faced helmets. The registration number of their motorcycle could not be detected. — Bernama
