Floods in Kelantan claim two victims

MACHANG, Feb 26 – Two teenage friends were among the first victims of floods in Kelantan when a boat carrying five others overturned in flood waters at Kampung Pertok, Temangan, here, today.

During the 10.15am incident, Muhammad Zulkhairi Ab Talib, 15 and Mohammad Arif Johan Mohd Noh, 13, were believed to be playing in an unused pool that was flooded when the boat they were in, overturned.

Machang police chief DSP Che Malek Bedot said seven youths had boarded a boat that belonged to a resident in the area, without the owner’s knowledge.

“The boat overturned due to imbalance and all seven, including the two victims, fell into the water. Friends and neighbours managed to save five of them,” he said when met, here, today.

Che Malek said villagers managed to find both the victims about 30 minutes after carrying out a search and rescue operation but upon arrival at Klinik Temangan for treatment, they were pronounced dead and their bodies sent to the Machang Hospital. – Bernama
