Four die after wrecked pickup catches fire

JEMPOL, July 20 — Four people were burnt to death while another was injured in a collision between a Nissan Navara and a tanker at Kilometre 37, Jalan Keratong-Bahau, near, today.

A police spokesman said the accident occurred at at 4.40pm when the four unidentified people in the Nissan Navara were heading for Keratong from Bahau.

He said upon arrival at the scene, the Nissan Navara (4WD vehicle) collided with the fuel laden tanker from the opposite direction.

“The collision caused the four to be trapped in the Nissan Navara and they were unable to escape the blazing vehicle. However, the tanker driver, who was injured, managed to flee in time,” he said here, today.

He said the two vehicles were totally razed and the four were burnt beyond recognition while the tanker driver had been sent to the Jempol Hospital.

Meanwhile, state traffic chief ASP Abdul Halil Hamzah when contacted, confirmed the accident and said  bodies had been sent to Jempol Hospital for post-mortem.

He said the cause of the accident was still being investigated. — Bernama
