Genting Sempah tragedy: No police report yet from car driver

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 — Police have yet to receive a report from the driver of the Mercedes Benz involved in the accident with a bus which killed seven people at Genting Sempah on Friday.

Selangor public order and traffic chief Supt Che Hussin Omar said the Mercedes’ involvement in the accident was based on accounts by the bus driver, passengers and witnesses.

He reminded the Mercedes’ driver that it is an offence not to report road  accidents within 24 hours.

“The absence of police report will hamper investigation. I hope the driver of the Mercedes come forward to give information,” he told Bernama today.

Meanwhile, Road Safety Department (JKJR) director-general Datuk Suret Singh said the accident is being investigated by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros).

“Decision or follow-up action will be based on findings from investigation conducted by Miros,” he said after visiting accident victims at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) today. — Bernama
