Graft: Immigration officer charged
SUNGAI PETANI, May 22 — An immigration enforcement officer claimed trial in the Sessions Court here today to corruptly accepting RM2,000 from a trader in August last year.
Ilias Ali, 52, allegedly accepted the amount from Lee Jin Hup as an inducement to register two China nationals, Cheng Qinyu and Zhong Yulin, in the legalisation of foreign workers (6P) programme, whereas the registration was free of charge.
He allegedly committed the offence at the department’s enforcement office in Wisma Keladi, Jalan Bank here around 11.20am on August 23, 2011.
Ilias also faces an alternative charge of accepting RM2,000 from Lee around 11.20am at the same place, date, and for the same purpose.
Judge Mohammad Khalid Ab Karim set bail at RM3,000 in one surety for both charges and fixed June 26 for hearing. — Bernama
