Grandmother, grandson charged over drug possession

MALACCA, Jan 7 — A 71-year-old woman and her 29-year old grandson were charged at the Magistrate Court here today with possession of 2.3g of heroin.

Norma Hamid and Shaharudin Mohd Zin were alleged to have committed the offence at an unnumbered house in Sungai Udang here at about 12.30pm on January 3.

They were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of five years and whipping if convicted.

Meanwhile, Shaharudin was also charged with possession of another 0.3g of the same drug at the same location, time and place.

If convicted, he could face five years in jail or fine not exceeding RM100,000, or both.

Both pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

Magistrate Ida Rahayu Sharif allowed bail of RM1,000 for Norma and RM4,000 for Shaharudin with one surety and fixed February 19 for remention.
