Guard charged with murder of elderly woman
GEORGE TOWN, Aug 22 — A security guard was charged at the magistrate’s court here today, with the murder of a 60-year-old woman at the Rifle Range Flats in Padang Tembak last month.
Ooi Kean Leong, 35, was alleged to have killed Tan Kim Chuan in front of Block J, at a motorcycle park in Padang Tembak, at 6.02am on July 10.
No plea was recorded from Ooi.
Magistrate B. Sripracha Nanthini fixed October 2 for mention.
Tan’s death attracted public sympathy as no one came to her aid when she fell and struck her head on the ground after a motorcyclist had snatched her bag.
It was reported that closed-circuit television footage showed her lying on the road for several minutes as people ignored her and walked by. — Bernama
