KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 — Several main expressways have reported slow-moving traffic as more people are returning home after the Aidilfitri holidays.

A spokesman at the Malaysian Highway Authority said traffic at the southern part of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) has been congested at Simpang Empat to Pedas-Linggi, Ayer Hitam to Machap and Simpang Renggam to Kulaijaya since 6pm today.

In the northern part of the expressway, he said, the areas reported to be experiencing heavy traffic since noon today were at Changkat Jering to Terowong Menora, Tapah to Bidor and Ipoh to Kuala Kangsar.

“The areas at Sungai Petani Selatan to Sungai Dua, Bandar Baru to Bukit Merah, Simpang Pulai to Gopeng and Sungkai to Slim River have been reported as congested since 3pm,” he said when contacted tonight.

He said traffic on the Penang Bridge heading towards Bayan Lepas has been also heavy since 10pm due to rain. Congestion at the toll exit to the bridge has been building since 6pm, he added.

There has been an increase in traffic on the East Coast Expressway since 9pm, but the situation was still under control with more vehicles in Gambang heading towards Karak, as well as from Bentong to the Gombak toll plaza, he added.

He said traffic flow at the toll plaza at Sungai Besi and Jalan Duta was still smooth.
