Heavy traffic reported on highways

August 21, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 — Major highways have seen an increase in traffic flow since midday today and the trend is expected to continue until midnight, said an unnamed spokesman of the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM).

He said congestion on the East Coast Highway was caused by slow-moving vehicles.

“The slow traffic was seen from Bentong to Gombak toll plaza, especially in the high area like Genting Sempah,” he told Bernama today.

The spokesman said on the North-South Expressway, traffic has been slow since 4pm from Simpang Empat to Seremban, Bukit Gantang resthouse to Menora tunnel and Juru toll plaza to Bukit Tambun.

“As of 6pm, conditions at the Sungai Besi and Jalan Duta toll plazas were smooth.

“However, traffic in both directions at Senawang toll plaza was heavy,” he said.

He said traffic was still expected to be smooth until midnight even as more people were expected to return to the capital after the Hari Raya celebrations.
