Hisham: Umno, BN still open to ‘muzakarah’
Hishammuddin said Umno would meet any party that wants to hold discussions. — File picPUTRAJAYA, June 26 — Umno and its partners in the Barisan Nasional have always adopted an open-door policy on “muzakarah” (dialogues) on matters of national interest, said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
Commenting on PAS’s reported reversal on holding such talks with Umno, Hishammuddin, who is also home minister, said it came as no surprise.
“This is nothing new, it is just a diversionary tactic on their part. No matter, Umno adopts an open-door policy on whoever wants to talk to us,” he told reporters after giving away the prizes to the winners of a shouting competition held in conjunction with the Million Youths Gathering, here today.
Hishammuddin was asked to comment on reports that PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat was aborting PAS’s intention to hold a “muzakarah” with Umno following PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s rejection of the move. — Bernama
