Hishammuddin: Stepping on pix of Najib an extreme act
KOTA BARU, Sept 1 — The action of certain quarters in stepping on the pictures of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has been described as an extreme act to sow hatred against Najib, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
He said police would investigate the matter and refer it to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
“Political hatred is a dangerous matter in a multi-racial and multi-religious society,” said Hishammuddin, who is also Umno vice-president, to reporters after opening the Pengkalan Chepa Umno division delegates meeting here today.
Hishammuddin said such matters should be handled carefully and speedily so that it would not exploited by certain parties.
Apart from stepping on the pictures at the Himpunan Janji Bersih rally at Dataran Merdeka on the eve of the 55th National Day, there were also participants who carried “new flags” described by some as not respecting the sovereignty of the country.
Hishammuddin said what was carried out by the groups was worrying as it could lead to riots and as such the government would not compromise on the question of the nation’s security. — Bernama
