KUALA TERENGGANU, April 19 — Mohd Zubir Embong, the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat is having a tough time introducing himself to voters.
This is because former teacher Mohd Zubir is often mistaken for his namesake Datuk Zuber Embong, the member of parliament for Kuala Terengganu over 20 years ago.
“Some people said I am a recycled candidate and called me Datuk. I told them that I am not a Datuk, just the new candidate Cikgu Zubir.”
Mohd Zubir said the confusion was expected to be resolved when he get to meet more voters after the nomination process tomorrow.
Asked about BN’s chances, Mohd Zubir was confident that the party’s good track record would lure Kuala Terengganu voters to support him.
“I am confident that BN can wrest Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat and win the four state seats within the constituency,” he added.
In 2008 general election, Datuk Razali Ismail from BN won the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat beating Mat Sabu from PAS.
However, Razali’s death one year later forced a by-election which was won by Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut from PAS. – Bernama
