I didn’t mean to give publicity to Syiah ideology, says Jamil Khir - Bernama

Explanations on Syiah ideology are not meant to give it publicity, but to help the people to recognise it in order to combat it, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharum.

He said the public could easily be influenced by the Syiah ideology, which contradict the Sunni teachings, if no explanations were given to them.

"People could easily be influenced by the Syiah ideology, especially when it comes to the 'fun' parts, such as muta'ah marriage and the three instead of five daily prayers.

"If left unexplained, those who fell for the ideology will continue believing them and it will be difficult to change their faith," he told reporters after presenting cost of living allowance to 400 fishermen in Yan, Kedah, today.

Jamil Khir also rapped PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar's statement blaming state governments, religious authorities and media, which he claimed to have been given publicity to Syiah development in the country.

"Mahfuz's statement is his personal perception because the state and federal governments as well as all religious authorities are doing their level best to curb the spread of Syiah ideology in the country," he said.

Jamil Khir said the government would not compromise and would take legal action against any quarters trying to spread the ideology in the country, including politicians and non-governmental organisations.

He said the government also welcomed the decision made by PAS leadership to sack its members or leaders involved in Syiah movement. – Bernama, August 3, 2013.
