Johor Sultan: Do not disregard the law

May 13, 2012

KULAIJAYA, May 13 — The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, today advised Malaysians against ignoring the law when putting forward their demands to the government.

He said that of late, some people in the country preferred to act in a way that is detrimental to security and public order, such as by resorting to street demonstrations.

“Our country is free and independent, but that does not mean we can do things at will and break the law,” he said at the launch of Kembara Mahkota Johor 2012 at TJ Mart, Saleng. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak flagged off the programme.

The sultan (picture), who led the annual royal motorcycle convoy, said street demonstrations were purely aimed at seeking publicity in the international media and tarnishing the nation’s image.

“They want to portray our country in a state of chaos,” he said when addressing the thousands of people of all races who attended the flag-off. — Bernama
